What We Do

We specialize in Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) powertrain repairs and remanufacturing. We offer drive unit rebuilds, battery swaps and repairs, and advanced diagnostics.

Tesla Large Drive Unit (LDU) Coolant Retrofits: Also known as coolant deletes, we specialize in preventative retrofits to solve the coolant seal issue endemic to the Large Drive Unit on many Tesla Model S and Model X. We also offer rebuilds and remanufactured units.

Battery Repairs: We specialize in repairing common battery issues on Tesla Model S and Model X, including BMB repairs, Open VSH errors, and module downgrades in certain circumstances.

While we work frequently on Tesla Model S and Model X, we have the equipment and skills to work on a wide variety of other EV motors and batteries. Contact us for a custom quote.

Who We Are

Great Lakes EV is a family-run EV service shop based in Dayton, Ohio. Founded by a former Tesla leader and a career electronics expert, we’re on a mission to give electric vehicles longer, smarter lives through transparent repairs, precision diagnostics, and a deep respect for the parts we work with.

We’re not your typical repair shop.

If EVs didn’t exist, neither would we — this is all we do. Our tools, training, and expertise are built specifically for electric vehicles, not adapted from gas car workflows. It’s what we know, and what we’re here for.
